Mustache Boos

Posted Tuesday July 27, 2010

Drawing some mustaches tonight while trying to get Miles to go to bed at a decent hour. 10 PM is not a decent hour.

New films should be arriving tomorrow, so I hope to have some finished pieces by early next week.

Penciling some boos

Posted Monday July 26, 2010

I did some sketching last night on panels to match the last ones I finished. My plan for these is to do a long stretch of panels, each being able to stand on it's own but if put together would make a kind of landscape. I also did some doodling of different Boo heads; I'm not sure what these guys are going to turn into. Stay tuned.

New Dragon Boat print in progress

Posted Saturday July 24, 2010

I printed two of three colors of a new print inspired by the Bemidji Dragon Boat Festival last night. I ran out of films so the third will have to wait until I get them in the mail early this week. The main print is on top, then I used the little extra space on the parent sheet to so another small print based on some doodles. More later.

Making separations for a new print.

It might be a little hard to make out, but those are washers and wire nails. Screen is burning…

Update

Ya, that didn’t work. When I went to wash out the screen the burned image just fell apart. Trial and error is the name of the game this week I guess. There was too much space between the screen and the glass.

Blank Stare Left and Right

Posted Tuesday July 20, 2010

Between doing a bunch of things around the house, including trying to get our house to sell, I finally got these two finished, clear coated, and ready to hang.

I’ve been playing some NES games lately, some Zelda, Metroid, Super Mario Brothers (yes, I still have my original NES, but play them also on Homebrew) and the backgrounds of Super Mario 3 inspired these. I’d already kind of made something similar on my iPhone through Brushes, but I felt better with a brush in my hands than using my finger on a screen. Running across worlds in SMB3 there are tons of objects with eyes staring back at the player from the background, and this is my take on their “Blank Stare”.

Each are 9×12”, graphite and latex paint on raised wood panel.
