PKN Bemidji Poster

Posted Jul 8, 12:54 AM

I recently worked on a poster for PechaKucha Night in Bemidji. Until recently I had never heard of these events, but I’m going to definitely try to attend ones in the future here in town.

This was a fun poster to work on. I used this tool to create the splatter objects for the background and then layered to create a background.

I was sketching a little this afternoon and drew a whole bunch of owls. This one is the result of one of the sketches that looked the best out of the bunch. What do you think, would this make a good kids room print?

Harmony, a really awesome browser based drawing app!

Posted Jun 13, 08:14 PM

I tried out Harmony, http://mrdoob.com/projects/harmony/ a while back, and today I rediscovered it while going through my bookmarks. I didn't get into Harmony too much when I'd original discovered it, but now pairing it up with a touch screen iPad, I can really see it's potential. This is a drawing I did in Harmony in about 10 minutes. Give it a try!

Some progress shots of new paintings.

Posted Jun 12, 11:46 PM

I had these 5×7” panels that were cut down from scrap wood for a while now. Every so often I’d slap something on them but nothing really made them a finished piece. On one of them I started to draw arch type shapes on, which reminded me of pictures of the Roman aqueduct system. So I ran with that idea, continuing the archway pattern across 4 more panels until I go to the the results above.

I’m not sure if these would be a set or stand alone as individual paintings in a series. I’m painting them so that each could stand alone from the others, while creating a wider piece if left together.

A little thing I messed around on this afternoon between waiting for customers to get back to me at work. Not sure if it will turn into anything, I just was playing around some more in Sketchbook Pro. Now back to work.

I'm painting this week because the weather is being ridiculous.

P42

I broke out some unfinished canvases I had in the attic last week and decided to have a go at them again. I picked up some tubes of process magenta, yellow and cyan and started in on five canvases. They are not too big, the largest one being 16×20”, so I can work on them in our craft/ spare room on my drafting table.

More on these later. We have had a 40 degree swing in temperature in the last two days, so no printing just yet, but I have a few things lined up.

Yellow Umbrella Grand Reopening!

Posted Jun 3, 10:24 AM

I was out at the family and friends preview of the new space for Yellow Umbrella last night. They have a pretty awesome new shop in Bemidji, downtown on 3rd St across from Wells Fargo.

They have tons of cool new stuff! What impressed me the most was their wall of prints, which a bunch of mine were hanging on.

If you are in the Bemidji area you should check it out. I think their shop is going to become the gem of downtown.

Testing out Sketchbook Pro

Posted May 25, 08:09 AM

Over the last few days I’ve been messing with Sketchbook Pro and I really like it! Sketchbook has just the right amount of tools in it without being cumbersome, and the large area on the iPad is nice to work on.

Here’s a couple drawings I’ve done in Sketchbook so far.
